Do I need to have a medical examination? Is there healthcare while I am on board?
Do I need to have a medical examination? When you are offered a contract by a cruise line, you must pass a medical examination. With the contract, you should be sent a list of physicians who can carry out this assessment in your home city. The cost is approximately $50 - $70 US which you are responsible for prior to joining the vessel, however, your cruise line should reimburse this cost once you have boarded. Immunization is generally not required; it is offered on board if necessary.
Is there healthcare while I am on board? Your contract should include full health coverage for the duration of your employment, however it is recommended that you take out travel medical insurance for the time prior to boarding. This is something that you will need to check with the cruise line.
